The battle between Verizon Wireless and At&t is heating up and this morning At&t has issued three press releases regarding improvements to their 3G network. The first bit of news comes from Central Florida where At&t has substantially increased capacity on its 3G network for residents of Gainesville, Tallahassee and Jacksonville.
Next At&t upgraded its 3G mobile broadband service in Seattle, Tacoma, Everett, Renton, Auburn, Pierce and King Counties for Washington residents. The carrier deployed its new 850MHz band which should result in better 3G performance and enhanced in-building wireless coverage along with network capacity.
The last announcement was that At&t has invested nearly $65 million from 2008 through the third quarter of 2009 to upgrade the San Francisco Bay Area to the 850MHz 3G band. At&t upgraded close to 850 cell sites as part of the enhancement with the majority coming in the third quarter of 2009.
Overall these are welcomed improvements by At&t and hopefully just the beginning in a major nationwide overhaul that we see completed by the end of 2010. In the meantime expect to see even more Verizon Holiday commercials bashing the carrier while the legal battle rages on in the courtroom.
