You’ve seen the commercials, you’ve heard about the apps and you still will not be able to escape the world according to Apple. In the AdMob report for October the iPhone has gained 10 percent of absolute share since August to reach 50 percent while Symbian has fallen again to 25 percent. Apple was not the only big winner, Google’s Android OS jumped from 7 percent to 11 percent of world traffic in the two-month span and gained even more strength in the US where it now represents 20 percent of all smartphone traffic. With Android devices being launched by 3 of the 4 major carriers in the US, Android market share should continue to grow rapidly thanks to recent launches like the Motorola Droid and Droid Eris by HTC. On other mobile platforms things were not so peachy, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile remained relatively stagnant dropping to 7 and 3 percent respectively.
