After waiting in line for 26 hours the first iPhone was sold in South Korea to Huh Jin-seok via mobile carrier KT Corp.  In a country dominated by sales of LG and Samsung phones it is uncertain whether sales of the iPhone will keep up with the global hype.  It was a long hard road to bring the iPhone to South Korea, but earlier this month when final approval was granted by the Korea Communications Commission analysts became very optimistic as buzz began to build.

“We’re hoping that this iPhone will be a trigger point for the smartphone market in Korea,” said Yang Hyun-mi, KT’s chief strategy officer

As sales figures begin to roll in and many South Koreans start receiving their iPhone shipments via mail we’ll be watching the story very closely.  Who would have thought that just a few years ago a computer manufacturer like Apple would be impacting the smartphone industry to such a magnitude that such a technologically advanced country like South Korea would be forming lines for Cupertino’s offering.
