Let’s be honest, at Cellfanatic we don’t usually follow the Mexican wireless market as closely as we should. Sure the Palm Pre went on sale yesterday via Telcel in Mexico, but other than the occasional device launch or leak we’ve been quite inept in our coverage. A report by IE Market Research Corp this morning only validates our claim by predicting that Mexico will have 107.8 million wireless subscribers by 2013 with Telcel’s market share dropping to 71.1%. The company also claims that Mexico’s No. 2 wireless carrier, Movistar Mexico, will remain in second place with 22.9 million subscribers while Nextel International will have 4.49 million and lusasell 3.82 million in 2013. Other notable findings include that Telcel will continue to enjoy higher EBITDA margins than lusacell, Movistar Mexico and Nextel with the industry average EBITDA margin increasing from 44.9% to 48.5% in 2013.
