When a carrier decides to forgo all logic and bump Early Termination Fees (ETFs) from $175 per line to $350 the FCC will notice.  Such is the case for Verizon Wireless who recently decided to increase their ETF’s on all smartphones because of the costs they incur when customers decide to break contract.  Today the FCC decided it was time to get some answers and a formal investigation was opened on the carrier.  The FCC is also investigating claims that Verizon charges customers who accidently hit web access button on phones that have no data plan $1.99, but Verizon has said it ended those fees a few months ago.
