The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 was scheduled to be released before the end of the year, but official word from Sony Ericsson’s blog has dismissed that claim.  The manufacturer is now setting the XPERIA X2 release date for the first week of January 2010.  Now might be a good time for SE to notify Vodafone customers that the device will not be launching December 2009 like their website indicates.

Xperiancers contacted Sony Ericsson after the news broke this afternoon and they reported the delay is due to problems relating to the proper integration of Internet applications.  There are also rumors that SE is looking to improve the battery life and optimizing the software on the phone as well.

In other SE news, the Xperia X10 is rumored to be launching January 18.  We’ll take this news with a grain of salt after the news the X2 is delayed.  The rumor comes from UK online retailer Play.com who currently has the device listed with a January 18 release date and a price tag of 529.99 British Pounds.
