With an impressive 4-inch 345 x 800 pixel touchscreen display it seemed the new LG Chocolate BL40 was destined for mobile super stardom. Unfortunately things are not looking good for the next generation Chocolate according to an early review from CNET Australia. CNET claims the device is plagued by LG’s S-class UI and proprietary platform which give the device sluggish performance. They even go so far as to say the device is a “major disappointment” and hope this is the final nail in the coffin for the S-class UI.
The LG New Chocolate is a major disappointment, and we can only hope this is the final nail in the coffin for LG’s S-Class UI which has hampered LG’s entire 2009 high-end range with tedious performance and counter-intuitive controls. The New Chocolate should be a great phone, as it breaks the mould of current design, its dual-screen feature is truly innovative, and the screen is a stunner. But we can’t recommend a phone that makes all tasks so much more difficult than they should be, even simple ones like calling a contact in your address book or replying to an SMS. We know it’s only in its infancy, LG, but it’s time to put S-Class out to pasture and to embrace a smartphone OS with the functionality and usability that people really want, especially for AU$1000.
We haven’t had a chance to run the BL40 through our own rigorous testing process so we’ll ask you, the readers. Have any of you had a chance to play with the BL40 and have a different opinion on the handset? Let us know in the comment section below, we were really looking forward to testing the unit but right it looks like CNET has spoiled the fun.

Are we really talking about the same Chocolate, so the LG Chocolate BL40 instead of the BL20? What is exactly meant with
dual screen? I don’t think the BL 40 has a dual screen. But you are right about the S-Class, this user interface has had it’s best time. It’s a cumbersome job navigating around on the LG Chocolate. But for me this phone is just great because of its looks, watching movies on such a big screen should be fun.
dual screen mode…
It’s certainly a quirky choice, and early pictures of the handset lead at least this reviewer to rashly dismiss it as an ungainly and gimmicky device.
I was pretty excited about the BL40 based on the images and videos, but I guess that’s what I get for making assumptions.
I think its great, it is a few more clicks than usual to call someone or send a message but it looks great and it makes and receives phone calls which is all that I need
love my bl40. awesome. probably my favorite unlocked new phones right now. processor is faster, my wife loves hers for the recorder and camera, great for family moments and catching our scenic washington views. i like the phone it looks great, lots of compliments. much better than our old unlocked at&t phones. the email and gps help us get around and the email helps me keep in touch with my clients and old friends from college. our unlocked quad band phones also keep us busy with the facebook and games, definately a lot of options with these bl40′s. very impressed. the touch screen is also easy to manuever around and open what i want. it’s all right there because the screen is so large. also got our cell phone unlock codes and sony ericsson unlock codes free so that’s nice. the battery life lasts me all day long too so that’s practical and the speaker is loud enough to use in my truck which is pretty loud. 2 thumbs way up on this phone. got our last couple unlocked cell phones at unlockthatphone.com very happy with our purchase.
