Friday is upon us and the weekend is quickly approaching. Before we send you on your way it’s time for your Morning Mobile Minute for Friday, December 18, 2009. Starting this off this morning are several videos for the Comes With Music service offered by Nokia. Earlier in the week we showed you videos of how to use the service on the 5800 XpressMusic and the X6. Today we have the N97, along with a video of the X6 downloading free music tracks.
Research in Motion reported their third quarter financial results. Revenue for the third quarter was $3.92 billion, up 11% from the previous quarter and up 41% in the same quarter of last year. The biggest news was that RIM shipped approximately 10.1 million devices and added approximately 4.4 million BlackBerry subscriber accounts. The total BlackBerry subscriber account base is now 36 million.
Palm was also in the news this morning after they reported their second quarter financial results. Revenues for the second quarter were $78.1 million, gross profit was $5.5 million and gross margin was 7.0 percent. Palm shipped a total of 783,000 smartphones during the quarter, a 5 percent decrease from the first quarter. It will still be some time before Palm gets things back on track, but at least they have stopped the bleeding.
In other Palm news their web-based development, Ares, is now available for the general public to develop apps for WebOS. This is huge news for developers hoping to cash in on the operating system and single handedly could determine the future of WebOS.
Windows Mobile 7 is back in the news today with new rumors hinting that the operating system will be delayed until “late 2010″ according to The Tech Herald. The news comes from statements made by Microsoft’s Phil Moore who recently hinted that the next generation of Windows Mobile could be delayed until the latter part of 2010. The good news is the OS is coming, the bad news is it might take longer than expected to reach market.
