Last night at CES Sprint put on quite a show by announcing their 3G/4G Overdrive mobile hotspot, the LG Lotus Elite and LG Rumor Touch. The first of these three new devices, the Sprint Overdrive, is manufactured by Sierra Wireless and works like a MiFi except it delivers both 3G and 4G services. The Overdrive will give you and up to 4 of your pals access over WiFi to Sprint’s data network, GPS and a microSD slot for just $99.99 on a 2-year service agreement.
The second device making an appearance at CES was the LG Lotus Elite. Like the original Lotus, the Lotus Elite keeps the same square flip phone design, but with a much sleeker style with smooth curves and an additional external touch screen. With two 2.4-inch QVGA displays, the external display let’s you access your email, texts, pictures, music and voice mail without ever opening the phone. When you do decide to flip open the phone you will have access to the full QWERTY keyboard and dedicated shortcuts keys for social networking, email and text. The LG Lotus Elite will be available in red with the decorative tattoo seen above starting January 10 for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate on a 2-year service agreement. There will also be a black version, but that will not be released until February 14.
The last of the three big Sprint announcements, the LG Rumor Touch, is launching in the first quarter of 2010. The Rumor Touch features a massive display compared to the original, a 2.0-megapixel camera, microSD card slot (up to 32GB), GPS with Sprint Navigation and 3G support. This is a huge upgrade from the original LG Rumor and to sweeten the deal LG says the Rumor Touch will be social network friendly, with Facebook access and the capability to quickly upload photos to services like Photobucket. As usual it will also have Sprint broadband services like e-mail, Sprint TV and Sprint Music. The Rumor Touch will initially be available in blue, but more colors are expected later in the year.
