If you are looking for an alternative method for typing on your Nokia N8 or C7, Swype is now available via the Ovi Store. Our favorite alternative text-entry input system has been growing rapidly after widespread praise on popular Android handsets, but today is all about Symbian^3. If you’ve never had a chance to use Swype let’s recap some of the basic features: Words are entered by tracing one continuous finger path, spelling out the word, across an on-screen QWERTY keyboard. The system also includes feature such as auto-capitalization and spacing, intelligent editing, custom dictionary and much more. Swype provides, potentially, a faster text entry method, albeit with a small initial learning curve.
The only catch with Swype for Symbian^3 is that that it only works in landscape mode. A latter version of the software with portrait mode support is coming, but we don’t have a release date on that just yet. If you still need a reason to download Swype from the Ovi Store for your N8 or C7 let me leave you with this. Swype say that it is possible, for most people, to achieve speeds of up to 40 words per minute with the system, but this will clearly depend on the individual and their level of familiarity with the system.
