The Wired magazine “Test Best Cell Phone” for November 2008, the Nokia E71, is coming to Canada via Rogers.  After all previous information indicated a Fido launch, those rumors have been laid to rest as Rogers made an official statement today saying that the E71 would be ‘available soon’.  While we still lack an official release date and pricing information, the stainless steel E71 will be in the land to the north shortly.

For those who have never held the E71, the build quality and thickness of the device are enough to win over the most captious buyers.  We’d venture to say that you’ll fall in love with the E71 even before turning on the screen because in an age of plastic devices bearing $500-plus price tags, a sub-$400 stainless steel smartphone is an anomaly.

After recently becoming a finalist at the BlackBerry Developer Conference, FlyCast’s mobile network is now ready to support the BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Storm smartphones.  The FlyCast network is the first specifically designed application to deliver radio, video and podcasts over mobile broadband and WiFi networks to mobile devices.  The software is positioned as a free alternative to satellite radio and was first launched in January 2008.

This version of FlyCast for BlackBerry works on BlackBerry Bold phones with OS version 4.6, on BlackBerry Curve phones with OS 4.5(Sprint, Verizon and other CDMA networks) and OS 4.3 (AT&T, T-Mobile and other 3G networks) and BlackBerry Storm phones with OS 4.7. If you need to upgrade your phone’s OS, please do so before installing and using the FlyCast application.

The FlyCast Mobile Broadcast Network includes over 1000 stations from top terrestrial and web broadcasters, including Entercom, Cox Radio, AccuRadio, 977 Music, 1.FM, 1Club and radioIO. The network provides unsurpassed quality of service and paradigm-shifting features, like StreamSlipTM, which allows users to continue to listen to a station even during extended periods without a connection; Top of the HourTM, which allows latecomers to listen from the beginning of news, talk and sports radio shows; SongSkipTM, which allows listeners to skip to the next song on certain webcast stations and pause on all stations. The BlackBerry smartphone version of FlyCast supports background play, allowing users to listen while they use their handset for other functions, and also supports playback through Bluetooth® stereo headsets.

The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220, already available in the US and UK, is now live for Rogers Canada.  To alleviate some of the pain for Canadian users forced to sit and watch as they became the third region to launch the first-ever flip BlackBerry, Rogers has dropped the price to a very manageable $49.99 on 3-year contracts.  The official release date is set for tomorrow, November 4th, but with such a great price and the agonizing wait we thought we’d break the news a bit early.

In order to pick up the Pearl Flip 8220 for $49.99 tomorrow you will need to sign the 3-year contract and opt for a data plan of at least $35/month.  The monthly fee might turn off a few of you, but if you are not ready to commit at the moment maybe a pink Pearl Flip will do the trick in late November.  The Press Release also indicates that Rogers will release the pink version of the Pearl Flip on their network by the end of November.   Continue reading

Attention all BlackBerry users looking to pick up the Pearl 8220, Bold or Storm, your time is coming. The end of October and throughout November we will be seeing BlackBerry launches sweeping North America and Europe as RIM expands its offerings across At&t, Rogers, Verizon, Vodafone and Bell networks. To kick things off, as early as yesterday (October 29th) Rogers began shipping the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 so that devices would be in stock for Halloween.  We all know that At&t will be quickly following Roger’s Pearl 8220 launch with their BlackBerry Bold for $299 on November 4th.

Next we head to Europe where Vodafone will be launching the BlackBerry Storm around November 11th (not confirmed) in full touchscreen glory.  Back in the states the Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Storm assault will begin picking up steam with Corporate stores selling units by November 15th, followed by Best Buy on November 16th and then all retail channels November 17th.  To help ease the launch Verizon Wireless stores will be opening 1 hour earlier to ease the launch.  Rounding out the release dates this November will be Bell’s BlackBerry Storm scheduled to launch November 21st.

Any hope for a BlackBerry Storm release date in Canada via Rogers Wireless can now be officially dismissed.  Earlier today BGR was contacted directly by Elizabeth Hamilton, spokesperson for Rogers Wireless who confirmed that the Storm will not be heading to Rogers.

Saw your post and you’re right, the customer service representative made a mistake. As you know, I won’t comment in advance on what our holiday lineup has in store, but I can confirm it does not include the BlackBerry Storm.

This is really shaping up to be a day of horrible news for mobile enthusaists.  First, the Sprint HTC Touch Pro is delayed, then the BlackBerry Bold fails to appear on At&t’s holiday rebate form and now the BlackBerry Storm is not coming to Rogers Wireless for Christmas.

It seems that there is a strong possibility that Fido customers might get the short end of the stick on the Nokia E71 launch in Canada.  According to MobileSyrup, the E71 which was scheduled to be an exclusive Fido launch might now be in the reins of none other than Rogers Canada.  It could be a sad day in the making for Fido customers in the land to our north, but we will file this one under rumors until more details emerge.  In the meantime, don’t tell us we didn’t warn you early.

We know Italian carrier, TIM, was the first to land the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 Flip (KickStart), but Rogers Canada is not far behind.  Previously we were told that Rogers would be launching the Pearl 8220 Flip is Gray, but now we can add Pink to the color selection.  In the advertisement below you can see the Pink Pearl Flip in action, set for an arrival this holiday season.  Both the Pink and Gray versions will be available for $49.99 on a 3 year contract for Rogers subscribers.

We’d like to feel bad for early adopters, honestly we would, but with the BlackBerry Bold non-existent in the U.S. right now it is hard to feel bad for Rogers customers who purchased the BlackBerry Bold at launch.  After only 6 weeks since launch on Roger’s network, the BlackBerry Bold will be getting its first major price drop from $399 to $299 on 3 year contracts.

Stack this lower pricing with the new BlackBerry data plans bringing 300MB of data for $45 per month or 1GB of data for $45, things are getting brighter for BlackBerry users to our north.  The big question now is how well is the BlackBerry Bold selling if they are already dropping the price $100 so soon after launch.   In any event now is the time to get on the BlackBerry train for the best pricing and plans of the year.

Joining the Rogers LG Shine family of pink and gray releases is the LG Shine TU720 in Black.  The sleek slider, complete with 2.0 megapixel camera and mirrored finish bezel has been a hit here in the states via At&t and enjoyed similar success in Canada on Rogers.  The device is currently compatible with Roger’s Vision Plan and it is available for the same price as the pink and gray versions.

The Shine Slider is a tri-band GSM unit with HSPA video-calling capabilities. It features a scroll wheel navigation instead of the D-pad or joystick found on most phones. Other specs of note include a MP3 player, microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth and a large 2.2 inch display (240 x 320 pixels).  The device first made its Canadian debut back on October 11th and hit stores in early November.
