Starting things off this morning is some great news for Maemo 5 hopefuls. The N900 will be available for purchase in the UK on November 16 and depending on which contract and data plan you choose it can even be free. For example if you choose a 2-year contract with a a £35 monthly plan from Orange (which includes 900 minutes) you walk away with a free N900.
Tomorrow is Verizon’s big day with the launch of the Motorola Droid. One of the big questions we’ve been asked leading up to the launch is whether or not Verizon would enable tethering. According to GearLog, Verizon has confirmed that tethering will come to the Droid in early 2010, although no specific date has been announced. If other devices are any indication you can expect tethering to come at a premium of $15 ontop of your current data plan.
Blacksn0w is now official with full unlocking capabilities for the iPhone 3G and 3GS running OS 3.1 with baseband 05.11.07. If you have been itching to try out that shiny new iPhone 3GS on a carrier other than At&t, you now have a software method that will get the job done.
Nokia has launched five new affordable mobile phones and Nokia Life Tools in Indonesia. The five low cost phones are Nokia 1280, Nokia 1616, Nokia 1800, Nokia 2220 slide and Nokia 2690. These models will also be available globally by Q1 2010.
Canadian subscribers on Bell Mobility can now pickup the CDMA Palm Pre for $100. After lackluster sales for the device up until this point, Bell has decided to drop the price in an effort to boost sales and clear out inventory. Yesterday Bell flipped the switch on their GSM network which brings a whole slue of new devices to the carrier such as the iPhone 3G. December will be a big month for the Palm Pre as they release their SDK to developers who hopefully produce enough original content to help webOS compete with Android and the iPhone in 2010.
T-mobile has announced that they will begin offering carrier billing to their own channel in the Android Market. This news came during the Open Mobile Summit in San Francisco where T-mobile USA CTO Cole Brodman explained the company’s plans for the Android platform. No details were given on when this policy would be put into effect, but we expect it to be a high priority for the carrier.
Last this morning is a rumor coming from Verizon Wireless that existing BlackBerry Storm owners (first-gen) will be able to buy the Storm2 9550 at the new subscriber subsidized price if they are willing to sign another 2-year contract. This move is very similar to what At&t and Apple have been doing with their iPhone, allowing existing owners to purchase the device at new subscriber pricing if they extend their contract 2 additional years. This BlackBerry Storm2 promotion is expected to start in a few days after the BOGO (buy one get one) offer ends.
