Hands-on with the LG Chocolate BL40 Black Label Series

The LG BL40 is a fourth generation Black Label Series and in our opinion the biggest step forward in the Chocolate design thanks to the implementation of a 4-inch 21:9 cinema-style wide-screen display running at 800 x 345 pixels coupled with the flagship S-Class 3D touch interface.  At first glance the BL40 might remind you of current-generation iPod nano albeit a thicker device but similar in shape.  However, the BL40 is a feature-rich ‘dumb phone’ delivering 7.2Mbps HSDPA, WiFi, and a 5-megapixel camera with flash, autofocus, 640 x 480 video recording @ 30fps and a host of photographic functions.  The focus on media does not end with this cinema-style display, a 3.5 mm headphone jack is standard along with 1GB of internal memory and native support for DivX and Xvid formats.  Thanks to our friends at eprice we are pleased to bring you a hands-on photo gallery of the new LG Chocolate BL40, enjoy.

The younger sibling to the LG BL40, the BL20, has just been unboxed by our friends over at Pestaola.gr in a nice 3-minute YouTube video.  While we are a bit rusty on our Greek, this doesn’t make much of a difference when your focus is the included accessories and the overall unboxing experience.  The 3.7V battery that rests behind the keypad provides just enough power to illuminate the touch controls below the screen of 2.4-inch screen.  With tri-band 3G and dual-band HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, support for microSD memory cards up to 16GB, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and radio FM, the LG BL20 earns its stripes in the BL series, enjoy the video

It looks like Apple isn’t the only company posting record numbers in 2009.  LG just reported their Q3 2009 financials and they had record revenues and operating profits despite the global recession.  Their Mobile Communications Company reported KRW 4.65 trillion (USD 3.75 billion) in sales, 21.9 percent higher year-over-year and an operating profit of KRW [...]

The market for the original LG Lotus must have been a lot bigger than we predicted because we just heard word that a sequel is slated for an early 2010 release date.  Apparently an extra-wide flip phone with QWERTY keyboard is a popular design and all the fans of the original Lotus (seen above) will [...]

Thumbnail image for LG Chocolate BL20 Full Specifications Revealed

After making quite the video debut, the LG Chocolate BL20 has now been added to LG’s website with complete phone specifications.  Unfortunately as we suspected, the BL20 is packed with mid-level features and touch-sensitive keys so ease of navigation is very much in jeopardy.  Two big features that are missing from the specs are GPS [...]

Apparently focus groups are not to be trusted with mobile devices in the US starting today.  According to Phone Arena, a Verizon Wireless focus group decided that the ultra-sexy LG BL40 would not be a good device to launch to U.S. consumers and instead decided to drop the camera to 3.2 megapixels, cut the display [...]
