Motorola has shown off a new phone, the MOTO VE66 with enhanced CrystalTalk audio technology, a 5-megapixel camera and MP3 player-like navigation. The slider device also boasts the first widgets integration on a Motorola mobile device, which offers easier, more seamless access to what matters most. MOTO VE66 is expected to be available Q4 2008.
“The MOTO VE66 delivers on consumer’s demand for more personalized listening and imaging experiences on a mobile phone,” said Tracey Koziol, corporate vice president, Mobile Devices, Motorola. “With a diverse multi-media experience, the VE66 truly enables you to make a statement and express yourself on your terms.”

MOTO VE66 amplifies your conversations and helps reduce background noise with enhanced CrystalTalk technology, so virtually nothing comes between you and your calls. From more superior voice quality to personalized noise adaptation, CrystalTalk makes a noticeable difference in the clarity and intelligibility of conversations while in a noisy environment. VE66 further enhances the audio quality with the addition of a second microphone, which helps eliminate more ambient background noise from the call.
Calling All Developers
Motorola today also announced the MOTODEV Widget Developer Challenge, a competition that allows developers around the globe to deliver the Web without limits to mobile users. Challenge entries will be accepted until Feb. 27, 2009 in three main categories including Best Widget in Category, Best Local Content and Best Use of APIs, and judged in their relevant subcategory.
Our first day with the Samsung Behold (SGH-T919) has been very exciting and the first thing on our mind and I’m sure most of you out there is the camera. Being the first 5.0-megapixel full-touchscreen phone to be sold by a US carrier is no small feat, but this also leads to high expectations especially with unlocked Nokia devices going mainstream at Best Buy Mobile as of late (N95 / E71 /N82 / N96). To give you a taste of what this 5 megapixel camera can accomplish, we put together a few sample shots taken earlier today that highlight the capabilities of the Behold’s optics.

The 5.0-megapixel camera (2560 x 1920 pixels) feature a LED flash and autofocus. There are 4 different effects that can be applied when taking pictures: Black and White, Sepia, Negative and Water Color, of course the default setting has these disabled. To help adjust your pictures for the proper setting you can adjust the White Balance to Daylight, Incandescent, Fluorescent or Cloudy. Rounding out the camera settings is the Scene selection where you can choose between Portrait, Landscape, Night, Sports, Sunset or Dawn.
Those of you who really want to take control of the Behold’s imaging capabilities will be glad to see ISO settings, Image Quality, Exposure Meter, Anti-Shake and WDR. The bottom line is that the camera capabilities of the Samsung Behold are robust and the photos above are a good demonstration of what to expect out-of-the-box with Auto Settings. As we continue to explore the device we will experiment with the camera in more detail in our full review later this week so stay tuned.

The 5-megapixel Touch HD is an exciting endeavor for High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC) and the first device to overpower the iPhone in nearly every technical aspect. Starting with the 5-megapixel camera, the 3.8-inch 800 x 480 resolution touchscreen to the 288MB of RAM for multi-tasking, the Touch HD is a powerhouse. Our friends at Technophone have had the device for a week now and have put together some of their first impressions along with a few sample photos to help us determine the quality of the 5-megapixel camera.

Here are some of the highlights of their coverage:
- WOW effect: 10 (to make a comparison iPhone was 9 and Diamond
- The materials used are excellent, it is nice and solid the rear is not as polished or iPhone Diamond, then there is no risk of scratches.
- The screen is touch sensitive .. here too close to the iPhone, despite having two technologies of different touch.
- You move in the menu so agile and immediate. There are no annoying slowdowns and expectations.
- The external speaker has a good quality when you receive a call or a text message sounds good and strong there is no risk of losing the call.
When it comes to imaging, the 5-megapixel camera was described as, “Images are not bad, but I was expecting something more, especially in view there is too pastel effect”. We’ll let you be the judge from the sample photos above. Continue reading

The first Android-powered device, the T-mobile G1, is set to hit T-mobile retail stores on October 22nd, but what about T-mobile’s first touchscreen-only device, the Samsung T919? Well according to a leak over at TmoNews, the Samsung T919 will be making an official debut on November 10th for the affordable price of $149 on a 2 year contract after all appropriate rebates (instant/mail in). The Samsung T919 is the 5 megapixel, full touchscreen, widget ready, handset set to take over the void in T-mobile’s lineup for those not ready to commit to Windows Mobile or Google’s Android. With MyFaves support and speedy navigation, and a mid-range digital camera slapped on the back, we are very excited to see T-mobile continue to expand their lineup.

A few spy photos have hit the Internet this morning, compliments of cellphonesail, and this time the rumored device is codenamed ‘Kate’ by Sony Ericsson. ‘Kate’ is a 5 megapixel slider, packed with a Xenon flash, Auto focus and a Smile Shutter, very similar to the current C902 Cybershot, but with updated software. According to the rumors, ‘Kate’ will run Java Platform 9.4 which is scheduled to run on the upcoming SE C905. One interesting piece of information we gathered is that ‘Kate’ will not feature a front-facing camera and it will also lack GPS.

Both of these features have become pretty standard in the GSM realm, but it looks like Sony Ericsson is aiming at a different audience with this release. An official announcement is expected this October and a release date should go down before the end of the year if the device makes it into production. With the recent device slashing of Sony Ericsson prototypes, it is hard to tell if any device will make it to the retail chain.
Sony Ericsson ‘Kate’ Specifications:
- 5 megapixel Camera with Xenon Flash, Auto Focus, and Smile Shutter
- No front camera for video calling
- Switch button between Still & Video as well as a button to access gallery of images you just taken
- No GPS
- EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA (at least)
- Sony Ericsson’s Java Platform 8.4
First it was the P200, then the P5i Paris and now the P10. While we still can’t confirm this as fact until the Sony Ericsson June 17 Press Event, we are fairly confident in the latter naming. The 5 megapixel slider will be officially announced as the P10 at tomorrow’s event and the rumors will cease. Unwired View has this to say about the matter,
Officially it will be the Sony Ericsson P10 and will be launched alongside four other handsets, namely, the G702 BeiBei, the F305 Fun phone, the S302 Snapshot phone, and the 8 megapixel C905 Cybershot.
The product pages for the C905, F305, G702, and S302 have already been put up nicely, with the correct URLs and the correct product names in place. But one thing that’s not in order is the appearance of a certain P10 in the newly prepared product pages, which leads us to believe that it’s where the upcoming “Paris” phone will be displayed on SE’s site.

If $350 is cheap, the LG KC550’s 5 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach autofocus optics might be your meal ticket. At only 14.3 mm thin and a Tri-band GSM/EDGE radio, the KC550 brings some serious power at an affordable price range for anyone looking into getting a 5 megapixel phone. The downside here is that you are limited to EDGE browsing speeds and you will have to settle with a QVGA 320 x 240 display. On the positive side, it sure beats spending $600 on a Nokia N95 if the most important aspect of the phone is the camera. Besides the beautiful camera, the KC550 has A2DP Bluetooth support, a microSD slot, USB connectivity and of course a speakerphone. For the gamers out there, the KC550 has 6 built-in motion sensitive games, FM Radio, MP3 Player and a set of video/image editors to keep you busy. You can pick up the LG KC550 today for £179.95 ($350 USD) over at Expansys.com

Official looking pictures have surfaced on the Internet today as we continue to wait for Motorola’s official announcement. As usual Motorola is keeping their lips sealed with the launch of the upcoming 5 megapixel ZN5 Kodak-camera phone. Although the ZN5 was spotted three months ago, pictures and details have remained relatively scarce, but today we have 3 solid press-type shots of the ZN5 in action. In case you are wondering, the Xenon flash is alive and kicking for Motorola’s first 5 megapixel camera phone compliments of Kodak.

Motorola ZN5 Specs:
- QVGA 320 x 240 resolution screen
- Linux-based OS
- 11.8 mm thick
- possible TV-Out functionality
- morphing keypad similar to the Motorola ROKR E8
- 5 megapixel Kodak camera, auto-focus, Xenon flash
In an age when manufacturers are searching for an answer to Nokia’s Carl Zeiss optics, LG has come through strong with the 5 megapixel Viewty and now the LG KF750 “Secret”. To take VGA video recording to the next level, the KF750 brings a new capability to the mix with 120fps DivX video recording. Who needs 30fps, when you have the compression of DivX with the highest frames per second in the business? Unfortunately the video recording capabilities and face detection on the LGKF750 “Secret” are where the amazement ends since the phone aspects of the device do little to impress.

With 100MB of internal storage and support for 4GB microSD cards, the “key stone” effect and EDGE/HSDPA radio are very standard features today. The LG KF750 “Secret” drops this May for the video enthusiasts, but the high-end smartphone lovers out there should take a pass at the eye candy.
