In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for customers during Taste of Chicago, scheduled for June 26-July 5, Verizon Wireless will beef up its network capacity by deploying a temporary mobile cell site known as a COLT (Cell on Light Truck).
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to make the pilgrimage to Grant Park for the 10-day festival. At its peak, during the July 3rd fireworks, the Verizon Wireless network is expected to handle twice the number of wireless calls, compared to a typical day. The COLT deployment will enhance wireless capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls, send and receive text and picture messages, and download games and ringtones.
