According to an article by RCR Wireless News today, the Sprint Music Store downloads that currently allow you to grab a copy for both your phone and your PC will be ending this month on October 15th.  Sprint has already notified subscribers that they will no longer offer a separate copy of the songs purchased from their Music Store, effectively making your Sprint Music limited to phone playback.  Since the Sprint Music Store songs are DRM-protected, playback on other devices will not be possible without some clever hacking.

At 99 cents each for songs that can only be heard on your Sprint phone is the service really worth it anymore?  In comparison, Verizon Wireless sells DRM-free PC downloads for songs purchased over VCast, but those songs cost $1.99 each.  The iTunes store is another alternative, but those songs abide by Apple’s Fairplay DRM system which limits playback to iPods, iPhones and a set number of Macs or PCs.  The bottom line is that if you still want PC copies of your Sprint Music Stores purchases, you have two weeks from today.
