Palm Pixie confirmed to run the Qualcomm MSM7627 chipset

Palm was quick to announce the Pixi and that the partnership it had established with Sprint and the Palm Pre would remain the same for this device as well.  What we did not know about the Pixi was what type of processor and internal components were inside.  According to PalmInfoCenter the Palm Pixi features the high-performance Qualcomm MSM7627 chipset which bring two ARM cores integrated to a single chip – a dedicated CPU core and a dedicated modem processor.  An even deeper discovery shows that this includes a 600MHz applications processor with floating point unit and L2 cash and a 400MHz modem processor.  The Qualcomm chipset supports both CDMA2000 1xEVDO Rev A. as we’d expect for Sprint’s network, UMTS HSDPA 7.2Mbps/HSUPA 5.76Mbps for Europe and of course GSM.  What makes the Qualcomm MSM7627 unique is that its processing power does not stop with the two ARM cores, instead it also features a 320MHz application DSP for multimedia supporting 30fps WVGA encode/decode and 200 MHz hardware-accelerated 3D graphics core supporting OPEN GL 2.0.  The rumors that the screen resolution for the Pixi might pose serious problems for game developers might be true, but the hardware-accelerated 3D graphics core with OPEN GL 2.0 support is plenty powerful to deliver some high-end mobile games.

At&t Video Calls thanks to HSPA Rollout

Sure At&t’s network supports 3g data access for our Nokia N95-3 NAM edition, but the front-facing camera is pretty useless for anything other than snapping a few shots of ourselves while driving.  Honestly, it would be a nice if someday we were able to take advantage of the video call camera which more often than [...]

Samsung’s first HSUPA SCH-M470 hits S Korea

South Korea will be the first to get their hands on the HSUPA (high-speed uplink packet access) equipped Samsung SCH-M470.  The SCH-M470 is a slider phone packing a 2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but the real gem in this device is that it supports HSUPA.  If you are tired of uploading files at a measly [...]
