Now that we have two 5.0-megapixel camera phones being offered in the US through subsidized pricing (T-mobile Motorola ZN5 and Samsung Behold SGH-T919) we are finally closing in on a device which will perform well enough to leave the digital camera at home. While we are still years away from replacing our DSLR, today we are going to look at 4 cell phones which are a good representation of the current imaging capabilities on the market: T-mobile Samsung Behold (SGH-T919), HTC Touch Diamond, Nokia E71 and Apple iPhone 3G.
About This Test
For testing purposes we used a standard point-and-shoot Canon Powershot SD20 as the baseline for comparison and ultimately our goal in camera phone imaging.  To ensure that each device received proper representation we used automatic settings with the exception of close-up (macro) mode where applicable.  We took 4 photographs from each situation and used the best image as our final result. Continue reading
It’s not everyday that you get a chance to use 3 of the top-end handsets on the market. Over the past few weeks we have been putting the Nokia E71, the Sprint HTC Touch Diamond and At&t iPhone 3G through the ringer in hopes of exposing the true kings in their respective smartphone realms. While we continue to put together some very thorough reviews and comparisons for you guys, here is a nice collection of photos with the three challengers, enjoy.
If there is anything specific you would like to know about any of these three devices feel free to drop a comment so we can include the information in our reviews and comparisons. As always we will follow up our written reviews with some hands-on videos so stay tuned.

Unfortunately not everyone is willing to leave their carrier to join T-mobile and ride the Android train compliments of the G1. Â For those of you hoping for a solution on your existing HTC hardware this video is for you. Â With Android 0.8 and a HTC Touch Diamond, youtube video poster crossdspark has delivered a 3 minute video showing the current status of porting Android. Â It looks like there is still quite a bit of work to do here, but this is a great sign of things to come from the underground community.
If you are more interested in the current progress of porting Android to HTC devices we recommend you visit the xda-developer thread here
Between the Touch HD, Touch Diamond and S740 it would be hard to argue there is a device that doesn’t fit your needs. Â Personally, like many of you, the Touch HD would be my device of choice and despite the lack of North American 3G bands it still might be my next purchase. Â To get a better idea of how the Touch HD, Diamond and S740 match up in style, we have put together a quick photo gallery. Â No matter which of the 3 devices you find most attractive, they are all winners and exceptional examples of HTC manufacturing.
HTC Touch HD Specifications:
Dimensions
115 x 62.8 x 12 mm
Weight
146 g
Screen
3.8-inch 480 x 800 resolution, 65k colors TFT touchscreen
A French retailer, Phone&Phone, is currently showing the HTC Touch Diamond available in 7 different colors: Rose, White, Mocha, Blue, Purple, Yellow and Red. With just green missing from the color repertoire, it looks like there is a shade of Diamond for just about everyone out there. You can take your pick from any of the color choices for 439 EUR no contact or as little as 49 EUR/month with a 2 year commitment and 54.99 EUR rate plan.
An anonymous source has leaked the Verizon Wireless employee training schedule which hints at possible launch dates for two of the most anticipated devices for the carrier this year: the BlackBerry Storm and the HTC Touch Diamond. While CDMA-rival Sprint has already launched the Touch Diamond, news from the Verizon camp is that they will be releasing a less powerful version of the device on their network before the end of the year. With the aforementioned document, we now know that Verizon Employees will be taking an Online Training course the Verizon Touch Diamond which concludes on December 3rd.
The BlackBerry Storm, which we still believe will be released in the first week of November, will also be offered via an Online Training Course. The device training for the BlackBerry Storm will conclude on November 2nd, just in time for the release date later that week. It looks like this holiday season will bring lots of smiles to the faces of happy Verizon Wireless customers.
Expected Release Dates:
BlackBerry Storm: first week of November
HTC Touch Diamond: first week of December
This Fall, Canadians will be getting their hands on several high-end devices including the BlackBerry Thunder/Storm, BlackBerry Javelin and the HTC Touch Diamond. Now that the BlackBerry Javelin has officially become the BlackBerry Curve 8900 and the Thunder has moved onto become the Storm we can finally get to the important pieces of information, the release dates. According to MobileSyrup, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 will be releasing on Bell’s network sometime in November along with the release of the BlackBerry Thunder/Storm. But before either the Curve 8900 or Storm hit Canada, Bell will be launching the HTC Touch Diamond on October 15th.
Can’t decide which HTC device to buy this Fall? Lucky for you Cnet Asia has gotten their hands on all three of the latest and greatest from HTC: the HTC Touch HD, Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. With the biggest differences between the Touch HD and both the Diamond and Pro being the larger 3.8 inch screen, 5 megapixel camera and higher resolution 800 x 480 px screen (WVGA), for some users nothing beats a hardware keyboard. Despite which device you prefer, end up buying or currently own, these pictures deliver irrefutable evidence that HTC design is in a class of its own (for Windows Mobile devices).
For the size conscious buyers out there the HTC Touch HD (115 x 62.8 x 12 mm ) thickness is about the same as the same as HTC Touch Diamond (102 x 51 x 11.5 mm). The Touch Pro is much thicker due to the additional QWERTY keyboard, but when you type out a few dozen emails a day on your phone it is price we are willing to pay.

Canadians on the Telus network looking to pick up the HTC Touch Diamond (P3100) have just been given the deal of the month. Â Canadian retailer, Future Shop, is currently offering the Telus Touch Diamond for $89.99 on a 3 year voice and data plan. Â The one catch is that the item is currently listed as out of stock ‘will ship when available’ for web orders. Â If you happen to live near a Future Shop, In-Store pick up might be your best bet for this deal
Keep in mind that the prices are only effective September 19, 2008 - September 25, 2008 so there is not much time to pull the trigger. Â A beautiful VGA resolution 2.8 inch screen running TouchFLO 3D awaits you my friends, have at it.
Orange UK subscribers, get ready to download the latest update to the HTC Touch Diamond. Software version 1.93 is now live on Orange UK’s website and it packs all the same functionality seen on the latest update rolled out to other carriers. As previously mentioned, the main improvements are in the performance and stability department as well as the quality of voice calls.
If you have been one of the many patiently waiting to speed up your TouchFLO 3D interface, this update is a must download. You can download the update directly for all Orange-branded Touch Diamond’s, but as always make sure you have at least 50% battery, a usb sync cable and Activesync or Mobile Device Center installed.
