The past year has been riddled with rumors of a possible takeover of Sprint by Deutsche Telekom, but after the latest set of rumors leaked Sunday Sprint’s stock price jumped 10% by the conclusion Monday’s trading. Given the significance of the rumors on the stock price it seems only fitting that we should breakdown this deal and what sort of motivation Deutsche Telekom has to get into bed with Sprint / Nextel. For starters let’s think about the situation in Britain where Vodafone was second in command, maintaining the 2nd most wireless subscribers. This will all change with last week’s announcement that Duetsche Telekom would tie-up T-mobile UK with Orange UK to create Britain’s top mobile service, knocking O2 into second place and Vodafone to third.
