Nokia's N-Gage gaming service reaches EOL

It’s a sad day for those of us who enjoyed Nokia’s N-Gage gaming service.  In a post on the official N-Gage blog news came this morning that Nokia will no longer publish new games for the N-Gage platform and instead games will be provided via its Ovi Store.  Current N-gage games can be purchased until September 2010 and the N-Gage website and Arena service will be available throughout 2010.  It is clear that the future of gaming for Nokia will be based around the Ovi service, farewell N-gage we’ll miss you.

Nokia and Capcom Delivering Resident Evil Degeneration to N-Gage Platform

Espoo, Finland – Nokia and Capcom today announced that Resident Evil Degeneration will be released on N-Gage later this year. With gameplay optimized for N-Gage, including two separate play modes, plus multiple mission types and 3D quality graphics, Resident Evil Degeneration is a cutting edge title that illustrates the unique capabilities of the N-Gage platform.

The game, part-based on the upcoming October theatrical release in Japan full-length CG motion picture of the same name, focuses on the release of a deadly virus by a terrorist at a US airport and follows series favourites Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, as they attempt to destroy the virus and prevent it from being dispersed across the country. Resident Evil Degeneration is the first full-length CG motion picture from the Resident Evil series, widely considered to be the benchmark of the survival horror video game genre.

Nokia launching N-Gage and Nokia Maps on Rogers Wireless

What’s not to like about world-class car navigation with turn-by-turn visual and voice guidance in 46 languages and dynamic re-routing to avoid trouble spots? Starting with the Nokia N95 8GB, Canadians using Rogers Wireless will be able to tap into Nokia’s N-Gage gaming platform and Nokia Maps positioning software.

The agreement between Nokia and Rogers Wireless is the first such agreement with a wireless carrier in North America and it will ensure support for future device releases on Roger’s network. No details were announced on when other Nokia devices would be supported by N-Gage and Nokia Maps, but at least it looks like the compatibility of the N-gage platform will be expanding across a variety of Nokia handsets.
