With At&t’s iPhone and Sprint’s Instinct joining in on the Visual Voicemail fun, Verizon Wireless has taken the necessary steps to secure a license to deploy the technology on their own network. Unlike the iPhone and the Instinct, Verizon Wireless customers looking to skip through their voicemail will need to pay a $1.99 per month premium. Once the feature is added to your account you can download the BREW application through VCAST to your handset and be on your merry way. The availability of Visual Voicemail on Verizon Wireless will be limited to only a few devices; LG Chocolate 3, Voyager “Refresh”, Motorola Blaze and Utopia. Other devices will follow including the LG Dare, but specific details have yet to be announced. You can expect the BREW application to be available to download via VCAST in late July or early August so stay tuned Big Red customers.

In case you were still following the lawsuit filed by Klausner Technology against Apple, eBay and At&t regarding the patents on “visual voicemail” technology, the case has been settled. All three companies have agreed to pay the necessary penalties and acquired proper licensing for the patents held by Klausner Technology.
